FAQs

About FCCT

What is Feltham Community Chaplaincy Trust (FCCT)?

Feltham Community Chaplaincy Trust (FCCT) is a community‑based charity that walks alongside young men aged 15–30 as they leave HMP/YOI Feltham. We offer steady, relational support that begins in custody, continues through the gate, and carries on for as long as a young person needs us. Our work combines mentoring, practical help, and pathways into positive opportunities — all rooted in the belief that no young person should have to face the long road out of custody alone.

Who does FCCT support?

We support London-based young men leaving custody or at risk of reoffending in the community, regardless of background, faith, or circumstance. If a young person wants someone in their corner, we walk with them.

Is FCCT a religious organisation?

We are a community chaplaincy inspired by faith values of compassion, dignity, and hope — but we work with young people of all faiths and none. There is no expectation of religious involvement. Our support is voluntary, relational, and centred on the young person’s needs.

Services & Support

What services do you offer?

FCCT provides steady, long‑road support through:

  • Through‑the‑Gate mentoring and resettlement work

  • Community‑based mentoring

  • Help with housing, benefits, and essential needs

  • Pathways into education, training, and employment

  • Emotional support and wellbeing guidance

  • Family and community reconnection

  • Volunteer mentoring and advocacy

Everything we offer is designed to build stability, confidence, and hope.

How does the mentoring programme work?

Young people are matched with trained volunteer mentors by our Resettlement Workers who:

  • meet them before and after release

  • help them identify goals and next steps

  • offer weekly support and encouragement

  • connect them with opportunities, services, and community networks

Mentoring is about relationship, trust, and steady presence, not quick fixes.

Is there a cost for your services?

No. All FCCT support for young people is completely free.

Accessing Support

How can a young person get support from FCCT?

Referrals can come from:

•    staff at HMP/YOI Feltham

•    probation services

•    youth offending teams

•    social workers

•    families

•    or directly from the young person themselves

If someone reaches out, we respond.

Is support available after release?

Yes. Our Through the Gate service begins in custody and continues after release for as long as a young person needs us. We stay through the early days, the setbacks, and the steps forward.

Volunteering

Can I volunteer as a mentor?

Yes. We welcome volunteer mentors from all backgrounds. You’ll receive full training, safeguarding checks, and ongoing supervision.
Because of the nature of the work, mentors must be 21 or over.

What is the time commitment for a mentor?

Most mentors meet their young person weekly, with flexibility depending on individual needs. We also use electronic means of keeping in touch.
Consistency matters more than intensity — it’s the steady presence that makes the difference.

Do volunteers need previous experience?

No. We provide all the training you need.
The most important qualities are reliability, empathy, patience, and a commitment to walking the long road with a young person.

Partnerships

Does FCCT work with other organisations?

Yes. We partner with:

  • local authorities

  • education and training providers

  • employers

  • probation and youth justice services

  • community and faith groups

  • wellbeing and health services

These partnerships widen the circle of support around young people and open doors they couldn’t access alone.

How can my organisation partner with FCCT?

You can contact us to explore:

  • education, training, or employment pathways

  • shared projects

  • community engagement

  • referrals

  • or opportunities to support young people together

We’re always keen to build relationships that strengthen local support networks.

Governance, Safety & Policy

How do you ensure safeguarding?

All FCCT staff and volunteers complete:

  • enhanced DBS checks

  • safeguarding training

  • regular supervision

  • clear safeguarding protocols

Young people’s safety and wellbeing are at the centre of everything we do.

How is FCCT funded?

We are funded through charitable trusts, grants, community donations, and strategic partnerships.
Every contribution helps us stay with young people for the long road.

Is personal data kept confidential?

Yes. We follow strict confidentiality and GDPR guidelines. Information is only shared with consent or when safeguarding requires it.
